Hobbit Party

Portsmouth Public Library’s building turns twenty this year, and when we think of iconic birthday parties, we think of Bilbo’s birthday in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. And libraries represent so many of the values hobbits believe in – the communal spirit and taste for simple pleasures, the pursuit of peace and friendship, and the power of stories to change our lives. So we’re hosting a season of events this autumn dedicated to The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and all things Tolkien! Join us for Build-a-Beard to enhance your dwarf or wizard costume, Foundations of Storytelling to start your own legend, a special Hobbit Book Club, and showings of all three extended editions of The Lord of the Rings films in November. And don’t miss our culminating event, a HOBBIT PARTY on December 11 from 6 to 8 PM. Featuring refreshments, prizes, crafts, games, live music, and more, this event will be good fun for fantasy fans and anyone who just loves a good after hours party at the library. It’s FREE and open to all, with something for all ages! Whether you’re more of a hobbit, elf, dwarf, ent or orc, costumes are encouraged! Please note shoes are required. The road goes ever on and on - and you'll arrive at the Hobbit Party precisely when you mean to. We will we see you there! Registration is optional – walk-ins welcome.
