Amethyst of RuPaul's Drag Race hosts the third annual Chez Legends Snatch Game, a two-category celebrity-impersonation drag competition at Hartford's Chez Est on October 30, 2026.

On the last Friday night of October, the back room of a low-slung brick building on Wethersfield Avenue will fill with the particular sound of a drag queen doing a bad impression of a famous person on purpose. The third annual Chez Legends Snatch Game, presented by ConnecticutDrag.com and The Chez Est, takes over the Hartford bar on October 30, 2026, with doors at 8 p.m. and the competition itself starting at 10:45.

The host is Amethyst, the Connecticut queen who competed on the fifteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. In her entrance line on that season she introduced herself as "resident meme queen and popstar of Connecticut," and she is a fixture of the Chez Est's own roster: her name appears on the venue's House of Legends page alongside the bar's resident performers. Bringing her back to emcee is, in effect, the local scene hosting its own.

The format is the draw. Snatch Game is the long-running celebrity-impersonation challenge from RuPaul's Drag Race, in which queens improvise as famous figures in a mock game-show setting, answering questions in character and trying to out-funny one another without breaking. It is widely treated as the make-or-break episode of any Drag Race season, the one where a queen either proves she can think on her feet or becomes a meme for the wrong reason. The Chez Est version takes that format off the television and puts it in front of a bar audience, with local contestants rather than a cast of production-selected queens.

According to the organizers' own contest description, entrants are chosen and then compete in two challenges. For the first, they must stay in character, impersonating a celebrity for a full episode of Snatch Game. The CTvisit listing for the event describes the night as two competition categories, including a celebrity impersonation. The winner takes home a $500 cash prize, a seat at next year's Snatch Game judges' table, and a place in the ConnecticutDrag.com Hall of Fame, which makes the competition something closer to a season finale than a one-off booking.

That the event is in its third year is itself the story. The Chez Est has been operating at 458 Wethersfield Avenue for roughly half a century; the venue bills itself as Hartford's only LGBTQ+ restaurant, bar and cabaret, and says it has been serving the community for over 49 years, a figure that has crept toward fifty in more recent listings. It is the kind of gay bar that has outlasted the era in which most of its peers closed, and its current programming leans hard on that history. The bar's House of Legends page names its resident cast, and the venue's own branding treats drag performance as institutional heritage rather than a weekend novelty.

ConnecticutDrag.com, the co-presenter, is a local drag news outlet that covers exactly this ecosystem. Its coverage tracks the Chez Legends competition as a recurring series with seasons and champions: a September 2025 story reported the crowning of a new champion at the Chez Legends season 15 finale, and a December 2025 story announced the season 16 winner, Harmony The Valkyrie, in a piece that also credited Chez Est owner John Pepe and Lady Tatiana, described as Queen Mother of the House of Legends and host of Latin Night. Vu Tran, identified as Emperor 22 and 25 of the Imperial Sovereign Court of all Connecticut, hosted those finale evenings. The Snatch Game is a separate strand of the same programming, spun off from the ongoing Chez Legends competition and given its own annual slot.

For anyone who has only seen Snatch Game through a television screen, the appeal of the live version is the same thing that makes the televised one work: it is unscripted, and it can go wrong. A queen doing an impression of a celebrity in a bar, in front of an audience that knows the reference points, has nowhere to hide and no edit to save her. The two-category structure means contestants cannot coast on a single good character choice; they have to sustain it.

Details of the full cast and judges' panel were still listed as coming soon on the event page, so the lineup on the night will be a surprise to most of the room. What is known is the shape of the evening: doors at 8, competition at 10:45, general admission at a bar that has been doing this on Wethersfield Avenue since the 1970s, with a Drag Race alum at the microphone and five hundred dollars on the line.
